Christian writer, Wayne Gillis, closed a thought-provoking article about servanthood with this:
"There are different ways of being a church, just as there are different ways of being people. Every church has its own flavor, its own personality, and its own ministry.
"But the Lord calls us all to serve Him by serving each other — in radical, selfless giving.
"I wonder what would happen if we — both individually and as churches — asked ourselves, 'How can I give myself away for the gospel today?'
"We just might just turn the world upside down."
"Turn the world upside down" — this is what we want to do in our neighborhood and community — we want to ask how we can give ourselves away for the gospel today.
As we think through the implications of that question, may we have the same answer that the prophet Isaiah gave when the Lord asked whom shall He send to tell the people about His works:
May we be willing to go, serve and extend the hand of Jesus. May our cup of cold water be a hot meal to the hungry, words of encouragement to the lonely, acts of service to the needy and kindness to those who need it.
The "Send Me" Service Weekend is an bi-annual event that takes place in the Spring and Fall. We offer a variety of service projects for members and friends to participate in so that all of us can contribute to the betterment of our community.
Our next "Send Me!" Service Weekend is September 24 & 25 — online sign-ups will begin in late August. Be sure to check out our brochure to see what kind of service projects we're offering!
