End Slavery Now
Human Trafficking is an evil that must be stopped
Slavery, or Human Trafficking, is occurring in our own time and in our own backyard. The average age of entry into the sex trade is 12. Human Trafficking is the second largest criminalized industry in the world and more than 1,000 Ohio children, ages 12-17, are being trafficked in our state every year. An additional 3,000 more children are at high risk of being exploited.
This must end.
The Event:
Join us on Saturday, March 3 for an informational meeting and discussion about this heinous crime and what we can do to stop it. In addition, this meeting will be WCC's official launch of a new ministry designed to help combat this evil. Everyone from the church and community are welcome to join us.
Who will be speaking:
Julie Clark, CEO/Executive Director, Doma International (a 501(c)3 organization based in Columbus, OH), will be speaking at our March 3 event. Doma launched 'Project Green Light' to equip local communities to combat underground red light districts and human trafficking in central Ohio through awareness, education and support.
Jeanette Bradley, Founder of 2nd Chance Ministries (a ministry out of Westerville devoted to helping the hurting and loving the lost), will also be a speaker.
Dr. Jeffrey Barrows, Founder of Gracehaven House and OBGYN has been asked by the State Department's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons to research the health consequesnces of human trafficking. From 2005 through 2008 he submitted an annual report on the health consequences of human trafficking to the Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. This research resulted in the publication of an article entitled “Human Trafficking and the Healthcare Professional” in the May 2008 issue of the Southern Medical Journal. Since 2008, he has focused his anti-trafficking efforts to creating Gracehaven, a non-profit organization creating a shelter for adolescent girls who have been commercially sexually exploited in central Ohio.
The Purpose
The aim of this meeting is to kickoff our official ministry regarding Human Trafficking, focusing on, but not limited to, domestic minor sex trafficking, to provide further information about the issue and to inspire attendees and present opportunities for their involvement. This will be an ongoing ministry at Worthington Christian Church.
