How it all started...
In April of 1975, a group of 36 Christians gathered to discuss the formation of a new congregation. From that meeting came a decision to hold weekly prayer & Bible study sessions on Wednesday evenings in the homes of area residents. In one of those meetings, Don Miller was asked to serve as the founding minister for the newly born Worthington Christian Church.
WCC rented space at the Worthington Christian Primary School building and on September 7, 1975, they opened their doors for the first time. Six months later, a committee was formed to search for property. Eighteen different tracts of land were discussed and researched. On August 15, 1976, just eleven months after the beginning of the church, the congregation voted to accept the recommendation of the church board to purchase 24 acres in Sharon Township at 8145 North High Street. It was always a goal of the leaders of the Worthington Christian Church to have a retirement home located adjacent to or on the church’s property. So in 1979 the church sold the back half of the 24 acres to the Worthington Christian Village, Inc.

In August of 1979, ground was broken for the church building that would become the permanent home for Worthington Christian Church. The building was finished in time for Easter services on April 6, 1980.
Over the years we mourned the loss of our first Senior Minister, Don Miller, who died suddenly due to a car accident in 1977. Paul Patton took on the role of Senior Minister for three years until he was called back to serve in his home state of Kentucky. In 1981 we welcomed Marshall Hayden as our new Senior Minister and he served in that role until 2009 when he retired.
On January 1, 2010, David Roberson began his ministry with Worthington Christian Church as Senior Minister after serving in the same role at White Oak Christian Church in Cincinnati for 30 years.
On March 4, 2018, David announced to the congregation his retirement and the elders’ recommendation that Dr. Jay Scott (who was serving as our Outreach Minister at the time) become our next Lead Minister. After overwhelming approval, he became our fifth Lead Minister on March 17, 2019.

Recently, we have been prayerfully working toward a "re-envisioning" of our building and property to better serve our members, their families and our community. This initiative launched in 2023 and it is called 'REACH.'

Rest assured that all aspects of the REACH Initiative is born out of our desire to reach those who have yet to know Jesus, or as illustrated in the Parable of the Lost Sheep, "to reach our One."
